Getting and keeping a Job

1: Make is rain – don’t wait to be told, look to solve the biggest problems at hand and drive the business forward as best you can. Make it rain!

2: Believe in what you do – if it is just a pay check, then you will not accelerate the business, learn the most you can or care about the level of delivery be it results, customer service, revenue or care. Believe in what you do!

3: Work as if you own the business – Would you spend your own money on that? Would you waste your time doing that? Is it best for the business? Work as if you own the business!

4: Don’t punch hours, punch outcomes – Why work from 9 – 5 just to get the hrs in? Yes hrs can ensure some outcomes, but hrs don’t drive outcomes. Working toward a clear goal leaves the hrs debate by the way side, work to achieve the outcomes and the hrs will take care of themselves. Don’t punch hours, punch outcomes!

5: Keep learning and adding to the business – “Thats not my job” will not help you get, keep or develop your role. Nor will it add value to the business. Keep learning and adding to the business!

6: If the business grows, so will you, so help the business grow – If you can add value to the business then that value will flow down to you, either via increased job security, better pay and conditions or other benefits. If you don’t help in growing the business, then conversely you will not grow or develop.

These are my thoughts that i wished i had figured out when i first started working!

definitely agree! now being literally underneath our own business it is interesting to see how the mind set shifts from working for a paycheck to working to make a business grow & be successful… still trying to work out the parenthood vs work balance. very tricky!
